A Blessed Person

16 Jan 2016 Service – Kong Hee

1 Chronicles 4:9-10 Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.

Jabez asked God to

“bless me”
“enlarge my territory”
“that Your hand would keep me from evil”

God granted him what he requested. Ask and ask persistently! Ask God to bless you! Have the audacity!

Can we really do that? Are we allowed to?

1 Peter 3:10-12

For “He who would love life
And see good days,
Let him refrain his tongue from evil,
And his lips from speaking deceit.
11 Let him turn away from evil and do good;
Let him seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
And His ears are open to their prayers;
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
He who would love life and see good days…. The key is our mouth. Don’t allow it to say anything negative or contrary to the word of God. God’s ears are always open to the words of our mouth.

Jeremiah 17:5-6

Cursed is the man who trusts in man
And makes flesh his strength,
Whose heart departs from the Lord.
6For he shall be like a shrub in the desert,
And shall not see when good comes,
But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness,
In a salt land which is not inhabited.
Cursed is the man who trusts in man. “Cursed” means empowered to fail.

Jeremiah 17:7-8

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
And whose hope is the Lord.
8For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

Blessed is the man who trusts in God. “Blessed” means empowered to succeed!

Psalms 1:1-3

1Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper. His delight is the law of God.. Meditates on it night and day. It’s not a chore, he enjoys doing it!

He shall be like a tree planted by rivers of water… Whose leaf shall not wither regardless of whatever season…even in bad times. Whatever he does will prosper.

And the key to all this is meditating on God’s word!

When we meditate on the wrong things, it’s called worrying!

1 Peter 5:7-8 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devourMeditate : to imagine and mutter

Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on the Lord,
And He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

All of us are already experts on meditating.. Just on the wrong things (worrying)! If we can worry, we can meditate!

Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

When you come to the house of God, you are only grazing, not eating. You need to chew and meditate on the word.

Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Meditate: the key to blessing

Ask for a sign!

Isaiah 7:11 “Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; ask it either in the depth or in the height above.”

Have faith .. Take away all the doubts.

Matthew 11:22-23 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says, Pray without ceasing. How do you keep praying without running of words?

Rom 4:17 as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations” in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;

Believe that you will be blessed!
