Faith and patience

For surely there is a hereafter, And your hope will not be cut off.
Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.
Hebrews 11:1, 6
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen,” “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
The more we grow in faith, the more we grow in confidence.
To please God we need to live in faith! We mustn’t cast away our faith! Because that is the means on how we can please God and receive His promises in our lives.
Faith and fear are mutually exclusive.
Luke 22:31-32 “And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
Our faith can fail! That is why faith can’t exist by itself.
Hebrews 10:35-36 “Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise”
The bible says that “you have need of patience.” When our faith is falling apart and overwhelmed, it is patience that will hold it together. Faith and patience are together! They are always mentioned together. Many scholars have called them the power twins. When you combine them together, you have tremendous power.
What exactly is patience? It’s more than just waiting for a long time. It’s the ability to remain constant and consistent, no matter what the circumstances are. It is constantly praying and constantly believing.
2 Thessalonians 3:5 Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Tests are ways of finding out the strength and weaknesses of a believer. It’s set and done by God himself. It is not accompanied by affliction and tragedy. No good teacher sets the test to fail the student! It’s set to promote you!
Job 23:10 But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.
Genesis 22:1-2 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”
God had already prepared a ram but Abraham didn’t know. Of course he didn’t, it was a test!
Genesis 22:15-18 “Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
His faith had gotten him the miracle. But it was Abraham’s patience and unwavering loyalty, that made him the father of all nations.
2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith
Fight the fight of faith! Every day we are bombarded by problems and issues, we feel like giving up. Don’t give up, keep the faith!
Trials are a way to find out the strengths and weaknesses of a believer, but it is conducted by the devil and allowed by God. It is usually accompanied with affliction, tragedies, accidents, calamities etc
For eg Job and Daniel.
James 1:2-3 “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.”
Joy is not the result of outer circumstances. It’s from the Holy Spirit. A deep inner peace of contentment. The joy of the Lord is my strength. You can go through a trial but still experience joy.
Proofing of your faith! When we go through a trial, your faith will be tested. Will you stand strong and hold your faith, or become double minded?
Only tested faith is proven faith.
Once you have overcome the trial, you will become immune to it! If the same thing ever happens again, you will not doubt God because you know the end result. Our confidence will not be shaken.
Your spiritual antibody is patience!
James 1:4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
The end result of patience is that you become a strong person in Jesus Christ!
James 1:12-15 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
Temptation doesn’t come from God. It comes from the devil! But you can’t blame the devil all the time. He can only tempt us to the extent we allow him to. You can’t stop a bird from landing on your head but you can stop it from making a nest.
Satan can only attack us on areas where we give him a foothold. Pride, lust, greed etc
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Patience keeps your faith going!
Tribulations are severe sufferings or hardships because of a test, trial or temptation.
Romans 5:3-4 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
Trials and tribulations don’t produce faith! Faith comes from hearing and hearing from the word of God. Build up your faith in the peace times!
Faith is a gift! God has given each one a measure of faith. Patience is not a gift! Patience is a fruit! You grow it… on the smelly fertilisers of tribulations. But having patience alone is useless. It’s how we use patience in relation to faith that matters.
Luke 21:19 By your patience possess your souls.
Hebrews 6:12 -15 “that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.”
No matter what Abraham went through, he still patiently endured.
Hebrews 11:10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Romans 4:21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.
No matter how challenging life may be, we must be patient and have faith!
