19 Oct 2014 Service – Phil Pringle
Some people feel that God is not happy if they are not happy. They think God wants them to be miserable.
People don’t expect to be happy, or if they are, wonder how long their happiness will last. People feel guilty about doing all sorts of things that make them happy.
We got to change our thinking about the nature of God because He loves you. He doesn’t want to make you wrong, he wants to make you right. Not constantly being under a burden or guilt.
8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Rom 8:1
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Gal 2:20
1. There is no condemnation in Christ. No body to condemn, dead to sin!
2. God has put all of our sin on Christ himself.
32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Rom 8:32-34
3. Jesus intercedes for us.
10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. Rev 12:10
Your feelings have no authority to tell you who you are in this world. Feelings aren’t definitive. If you allow your feelings to guide you then it will pull you up and down, on an emotional roller coaster. But if you lean on the truth and word of God, you hold on to the real truth regardless of your circumstances around you, and when you believe in that, then your feelings will automatically follow in that direction.
2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, Eph 2:2
13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, Col 1:13
Some people even think it’s heroic to not be forgiven. Like God has forgiven me but I could never forgive myself. Don’t harbor unforgiveness. It can bring in sickness. When forgiveness comes, healing comes.
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. Eph 4:27
Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting your neighbor to die. Not forgiving them does nothing to them but everything to you! It only messes you up.
10 Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ, 11 lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices. 2 Cor 2:10-11
People like to assume the worst of people and jump to conclusions without knowing the real facts. Don’t do that! Make it a decision to show mercy in every situation that you can, because one day you’ll need that same mercy.
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Rev 12:11
Paul says take up the Sword of the Spirit (the Word of God), because quite often we’ve dropped it.
The 2 great weapons of God.
1. The blood of Christ
2. The Name of Jesus
14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. Col 2:14-15
Jesus didn’t die for himself, He died for you!
