Abiding In Christ (Part II)

Abiding In Christ (Part II)

11 Oct 2014 Service – Kong Hee

Recap from Part 1:

#1 We need to adjust our WALK.
#2 We need to adjust our WORKS.

#3 We need to adjust our WORDS

3 He who does not backbite with his tongue,
Nor does evil to his neighbor,
Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;
4 In whose eyes a vile person is despised,
But he honors those who fear the Lord;
He who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
Psa 15:3-4

45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Lk 6:45

22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Mk 11:22-23

The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters;
The wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook. Prov 18:4

33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” 1 Cor 15:33

3 Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;
Keep watch over the door of my lips.
Psa 141:3

19 But I say, did Israel not know? First Moses says:
“I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation,
I will move you to anger by a foolish nation.” Rom 10:19

Jesus is the Truth Jn 14:6
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

His word is truth Jn 17:17
17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

God doesn’t remind you of your condition of your past, but position in Jesus Christ.

“Sons of God” (Rom 8:14)
“Children of God” (Rom 8:16)
“Heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ” (Rom 8:17)
“Elect of God, holy and beloved” (Col 3:12)
“Kings and priests to [our] God and Father” (Rev 1:6)

Speaking the truth….

A. Sets us free (Jn 8:32)
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

B. Sanctifies us (Jn 17:17)
17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

C. Strengthens our inner man (1 Tim 4:6)
6 If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.

God’s special book of remembrance (Mal 3:16-17)

16 Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another,
And the Lord listened and heard them;
So a book of remembrance was written before Him
For those who fear the Lord
And who meditate on His name.
17 “They shall be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts,
“On the day that I make them My jewels.[a]
And I will spare them
As a man spares his own son who serves him.”

#4 We need to adjust our WILL

4 In whose eyes a vile person is despised,
But he honors those who fear the Lord;
He who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
Psa 15:4

The human will is the controlling force of life

17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. Jn 13:17

28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ 29 He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said to Him, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. Matt 21:28-31

11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. Jn 15:11

Obedience opens the door to revelation

17 If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority.  Jn 7:17

The tree of knowledge is no substitute for the tree of life.

-The body gives MANIFESTATION to life

16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. 1 Cor 3:16-17

-The soul gives MOVEMENT to life

-The spirit gives MOTIVATION to life

41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matt 26:41

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Jn 3:3

“Our wills are ours, to make Thine” ~Alfred Lord Tennyson

Isa 14:12-15 vs Lk 22:42

12 “How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
You who weakened the nations!
13 For you have said in your heart:
‘I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
On the farthest sides of the north;
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’
15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol,
To the lowest depths of the Pit.

VS

42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

I will….

Instead of one vision, there is division

14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 2 Cor 5:14

13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Phil 2:13

I delight to do Your will, O my God,
And Your law is within my heart.”
Psa 40:8

14 So when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, “The will of the Lord be done.” Acts 21:14

17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. 1 Jn 2:17

Temptation always ends when our will is bent to the will of God.
