6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” 7 The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” John 5:6-8
It’s one thing to arise, another to walk. One thing to get up and out of Egypt, but another thing to walk to Canaan. The deliverance of people from Egypt was a miraculous thing. God could have just transported everything and brought everyone into the promised land, but God didn’t do that. He wanted them to walk.
God will change our lives. But He wants us to take personal action and walk Into the visions and dreams he gave us.
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, Ephesians 2:8 – Salvation part is god’s part. That’s the deliverance part. But v10, that’s the “walking Into” part. Christian life is not static, it’s progressive.
3 And keep the charge of the Lord your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn; 1 Kings 2:3
14 So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.” 1 Kings 3:14
11 Then the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying: 12 “Concerning this temple which you are building, if you walk in My statutes, execute My judgments, keep all My commandments, and walk in them, then I will perform My word with you, which I spoke to your father David. 13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel.” 1 Kings 6:11-13
Will bless Solomon but on one condition, to walk in God’s ways.
Walking is good, but no use if you don’t know where you’re going.
1. Walk in spirit and not flesh.
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16
Flesh defined in 4 areas – v19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness
Flesh defined as wrong beliefs – v20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies
Flesh is wrong emotions – v20 (hatred etc)
Flesh is Wrong excesses – v21envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Holy Spirit doesn’t take control of your life, we have our free will, but he bears witness in our life. “Turn left, then right.” Holy Spirit is the best guide. Walk in the Holy Spirit every single day. Yield to the Holy Spirit, you’ll never fulfill the lust of the flesh.
2. Walk in faith and not fear
Without faith, impossible to please God. Christian faith started by faith and must be sustained by faith. Even in heaven, we must live by faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word.
If God says something, that settles it. Everything falls in line. We put our faith in the word of God.
3. Walk in love and not lust
2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. Ephesians 5:2
Faith without love is like bread without butter. Faith can only work through love. Faith keeps our love working in the right direction for the right purpose. Perfect love casts away all fear.
Defining terms that God is love. One touch of God’s love and all fear is gone. Always walk in love. In life, a lot of fearful moments no matter how strong your faith is. We are all humans. But one touch of God, all fear will be gone. Also have t make a choice, everyday to walk in Jesus.
4. Walk in light, not darkness.
Jesus says He’s the light of the world. In Him, there’s no darkness at all. Have to abandon every dark way, every dark thought. Every practice of darkness, get it out of your life. 1
7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. John 1:7
4 You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. Revalation 3:4
