Mediatorial Rule

Mediatorial Rule

02 Aug 2014 Service – Dr A.R Bernard

Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Matt 6:10

The prayer for the kingdom is for the rule and presence of God to come to earth the same way that it is in heaven.

Universal rule and presence of God, is that which extends through all creation, through universe, throughout time and eternity.

He was never off the throne!!
You, O Lord, remain forever;
Your throne from generation to generation.
Lam 5:19

..Where I go Your presence is there (Psa 139)

The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.
Psa 24:1

Mediatorial rule: God administering his rule and presence through an agent or an agency. Specifically to the earth.

It began with a man named Adam. Have dominion.. Subdue…  God was making Adam his Mediatorial agent.

There’s a conflict between God and humanity. Humanity does not want to give God the right to rule over them.
Psa 2

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; Rom 1:28

There’s a conflict between the Holy Spirit and the flesh. Your human nature seeks to rebel against the authority of God. You need to keep it subdued.
Eph 5

Conflict between Christ and Satan.
Satan challenging God’s right to rule.

So God created in his likeness a man to be His agent, and demonstrate his right to rule by being fruitful, multiply, having dominion and subduing. Adam failed.

Eve is the seed. Adam fails to exercise his leadership.
As a result, the Mediatorial Rule failed. He was evicted out of the garden, and now has to struggle to get what he had already been given in the garden.

Now to Cain..
God tells Cain. If you do right you will be accepted. If not then sin is waiting at the door, and you must master it.

God activated something called conscience. It became the agency in which God would bring his dominion and presence to the earth.

Awareness of right and wrong; conduct. Everybody has a conscience whether you know God or not.
Not just to distinguish between good and evil, but also to stir you towards one to do good. His desire to prefer right over wrong, good over evil, even though they are still doing wrong.

Like how people are doing wrong but they can feel they are not doing the right thing inside.

Rom 2

The gentiles who don’t know the law are without excuse. They don’t know the law yet still do the law, proving that it is universal.

You’re not holy because you go to church, read bible etc. It is the presence of God in our lives. And often we try to be holy by the things we do.

Conscience…  Did it work? No. Because man failed to follow it…

Man became more evil and God was disgusted. Only one man was righteous,  Noah.

So God tells Noah now to be fruitful, have dominion and subdue. He invested his rule and presence into Noah and humans, so that he can exercise his rule and presence over other humans..  Bringing us the…

Human government
Tower of babel. So now they rule themselves and declaring their independence from God and establish their own rules and covenant. Human government.

Did it work? No. So God confused their languages. Didn’t want to destroy them but to delay the process….

So God raises a man called Abraham.

The nations have gone their way. So I will develop my own nation. Which is Israel. Out of Abraham will come a nation and ruler where all the nations will be blessed.

To Jacob. To Isaac. To Joseph. To Moses.

They multiplied so much that they were a threat by the Egyptians and were enslaved. Moses was raised to save them.

God now invests his rule and presence into a Nation –  Israel.

You are the head not the tail, all other nations will be below you. Through you other nations will see and understand God’s presence. Eg pillar of fire by night and cloud by day.

What happens? After Moses, to Joshua. They split themselves into tribes. Then judges came, but there was no king. Every man did what they thought in their eyes.
So a king came. First king was Saul but he was corrupted so King David replaced him. Then Solomon came. Temple is built and established. God’s rule is mediated through these kings.

But Rehboam did not want to rule the same way and offends the older tribal leaders. Israel splits into two.

Northern kingdom breaks away from Rehoboam. Called Israel.
Southern Kingdom remains and Rehoboam takes over. Called Judah.

This agency is failing! It’s not what it is intending to be. It splits into the legal and royal line.

Why 2 genealogies (Matthew and Luke) ? Through 2 different lines…

By 722bc Northern kingdom was captured by Assyrians and they become Samaritans.
By 589bc southern kingdom was captured by Babylon. Jews were in captivity.

God’s Mediatorial rule through this nation collapsed.

What was God left with?

Babylon would collapse and the Persian king would take over. (Cyrus)
Isa 45
Anoininted is the chosen one. God brings the anointing for a purpose. Cyrus was an unbeliever! Right hand means power. All of Cyrus power,  a Gentile king, was in God’s hand. To subdue nations!

I’m gonna let you know I’m using you, and also let you know who I am!

v4: For Jacob My servant’s sake,
And Israel My elect,
I have even called you by your name;
I have named you, though you have not known Me... You have not known me.

God can use people who do not know him! God is much bigger than the four walls of the church. But why? Because his people have failed him in his Mediatorial rule. So he looks out of his believers.

Not only is Cyrus being empowered by God he is experiencing a revelation of God.
v5: I am the Lord, and there is no other;
There is no God besides Me.
I will gird you, though you have not known Me

Persia was far away from God’s revelation, yet God was using Cyrus. And not only that, God was using human government. Even though there was difference in ideologies and culture.

Abraham was given a promise that a seed will come through him.
Moses was given a Palestinian covenant.

So Christ comes. But Israel rejects him. The religious leaders claimed he got his power from. Belzebub. So that failed.

So what now?

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Rom 13:1

All authorities that exist are appointed by God. In our day and time, God is administering his reign and rule through governments. This also means God is holding these governments accountable. Whether they know Him or not.

So what is the responsibility of the government? It is to protect human life. To punish those that are evil, reward those that are just. Provision is made for society under its jurisdiction.

When government no longer has the interests of people, that is when God will come and judge the government.

Eg USSR. It lasted 70 yrs and collapsed. The only remnant left is Russia.

4 Realms through 4 Agencies

-The home
19 For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” Gen 18:19

Rules of the home:
Eph 5, 1 Pet.
This means God also holds the home responsible and accountable. That’s why the home is constantly under attack, to undermine God’s reign and rule.

If the church is isolated from society, it cannot bring God’s rule and reign into society. We need a system and unique relationship with the world, where the church is not changed by the world, but the world is changed by the church.

A certain moral standard being applied, like laws to protect.

Cultural mandate comes from the Mediatorial rule. You are the agency of God in this earth! Through the 4 realms!
