The Tree Planted By The Waters
08 Jul 2014 Leader’s Meeting – Kong Hee
5 Thus says the Lord:
“Cursed is the man who trusts in man
And makes flesh his strength,
Whose heart departs from the Lord.
6 For he shall be like a shrub in the desert,
And shall not see when good comes,
But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness,
In a salt land which is not inhabited.
7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
And whose hope is the Lord.
8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear[b] when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
…Be like a tree planted at the riverside, don’t ever stop bearing fruits.
Trees are the oldest loving organism on earth. If we want to learn strength and patience, learn from the trees.
1) Trees are rooted
The bigger the trees, the more extensive the roots system. The roots is as extensive as the branches. The tree will thrive. Don’t be in a survival mode, be in thriving mode. Shrubs get tossed to and fro by the wind. But the tree stays rooted. Keep on going deeper in the word and spirit.
Character is like a tree and reputation is like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it but the tree is the real thing. – Abraham Lincoln
2) Trees are consistent
Can change and adapt to every season but yet stay committed to the same spot.
3) Trees are resilient
They can thrive on very little. How little is needed to thrive when failure is not an option.
– General Sherman tree (grow up to 21000 feet)
– Methuselah tree (4000+ years)
12 The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord
Shall flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They shall still bear fruit in old age;
They shall be fresh and flourishing,
4) Trees spread out
His branches shall spread;
His beauty shall be like an olive tree,
And his fragrance like Lebanon.
When you spread out, you become beautiful. Trees beautify a tree. Trees can bring the temperature of a place down, make it cooler.
5) Trees bear fruits
Pando, the trembling giant (over 40000 stems and each the size of a tree. 1 tree can spread over 106 acres.
Sunland Baobab tree, can store 4500 litre of water. Grows even in desert.
3 To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
4 And they shall rebuild the old ruins,
They shall raise up the former desolations,
And they shall repair the ruined cities,
The desolations of many generations.
We need to…
1) Grow in character
2) Grow in consistency
3) Grow in resillience
4) Grow in love
5) Grow in impact
