How To Fireproof Your Faith: Symbols of the Holy Spirit

31 May 2014 Service – Kong Hee

34 For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. Jn 3:34

The Bible uses symbols and emblems to communicate to us who and what the Holy Spirit is like.

The Holy Spirit is like….
#1 Oil

It shall come to pass in that day
That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder,
And his yoke from your neck,
And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.
Isa 10:27

20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. 1 Jn 2:20, 27…. know all things

38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. Acts 10:38

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
Lk 4:18

#2 Atmosphere

2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Gen 1:2

Expectancy is the atmosphere for miracles!

17 Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. Lk 5:17

#3 Wind

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Acts 2:1-2

Spirit in both Hebrew (ruach) and Greek (pneuma) means “breath” or “wind”.

#4 Dove

16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. Matt 3:16

The dove is a Symbol of peace

20 And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. Rom 16:20 ….crushed by peace! Peace js very powerful!

15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Eph 6:15

#5 Fire
Fire speaks of Purification

3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:3-4

11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Matt 3:11

#6 Clothing

49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” Lk 24:49

34 But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon; then he blew the trumpet, and the Abiezrites gathered behind him. Jud 6:34

Clothing, or uniform, speaks of Authority!

#7 Water

37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” Jn 7:37-38
