Framework vs Message
03 May 2014 Service – Dr. A.R Bernard
There is no new truth, only new light on present truth.
There is not only the individual growth but the corporate growth of the body of Jesus Christ.
There are times when truth can challenge your denominational beliefs.
What is a message? It is a specific theme or idea extracted and then presented.
Messages can become movement, they stir people, they are powerful, they can become denominations.
Eg word of faith movement..
Healing (oral Roberts)
Messages don’t take us to the next level of life. Socially, spiritually, politically.
It has an intrinsic weakness.
Eg Obama gave a message to deliver change. It’s what made him president. But whether or not was there change, is debatable to many.
Messages are narrow in perspective. In spiritual terms, it can be looking only at one part which can then be taken to the extreme, and become error.
Anything taken to the extreme becomes error, even truth.
When a person who believes strongly in a certain belief (eg prosperity), and you read a verse which is not aligned to your beliefs, you begin to twist that verse to make it fit. Then that becomes error.
Framework is a broad and basic structure which takes into account the body of the whole biblical truth. When you have a framework, you can speak about any subject. And that subject will be balanced by the framework.
A framework protects you from the extremes that come from a message. It gives you balance.
God is love, but along with the love is wrath. We can’t just focus on love and forget the wrath.
26 Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all, 27 for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. Acts 20:26-27 ESV
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. Matt 22:29
27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. 46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, Lk 24:27, 45, 46
Jesus saw the scriptures as an entire body. As a framework. As a complete system of truth that progressively unfolds God’s redemptive plans for humanity..
You can’t build your life on just messages!
Framework of Moses:
Something complicated came from something simple once!
What is the Framework for life?! Your whole life boils down to these 5 areas:
Successful spirituality is having a framework. Same goes for a successful life, boundaries in which you make decisions and the processes on how you do them, with guiding principles.
