How To Fireproof Your Faith: The Holy Spirit

How To Fireproof Your Faith: The Holy Spirit

12 Apr 2014 Service – Kong Hee

16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. Jn 14:16-17

#1 The Holy Spirit is our HELPER
He is our advocate (in NIV), comforter (KJV). Our litigator, our lawyer.
You need the Holy Spirit to come and console and comfort you, when you go through seasons, when you are in tears and broken up inside.

Our parakletos –  called to one side

2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us.. 1 Jn 1:2

#2 The Holy Spirit is exactly the SAME as Jesus

Allos (greek) means helper of exactly the same kind; same nature

5 Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ. 2 Thess 3:5 Who is the Lord? The Holy Spirit!

17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Cor 3:17

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. Jn 16:7 .. What advantage?

.. The advantage that God will be in you !

17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. Jn 14:17

This means you can feel God, sense God. We are living in an age where the Old Testament people can only imagine of. We are privileged!

#3 The Holy Spirit works THROUGH us

The Holy Spirit speaks!
13 Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Acts 13:1-2

The Holy Spirit guides!
6 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. 7 After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit[a] did not permit them. 8 So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” Acts 16:6-9

The Holy Spirit prepares!
22 And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, 23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. 24 But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself,[a] so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Acts 20:22-24

The Holy Spirit gives us hope!
13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Rom 15:13

Prophecies will never work unless you BELIEVE!

15 while it is said:
“Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” Heb 3:15

The challenging thing about prophecies is the time factor! Most of us can’t wait, we want instant results!

What we need to do is to expect its fulfillment and be ready!

28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. Heb 9:28

44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Matt 5:8

7 For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. 8 Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit. 1 Thess 4:7-8 .. Of the trinity, the Holy Spirit has the office of holiness and purity.
