How To Fireproof Your Faith: The Word of God

How To Fireproof Your Faith: The Word of God

08 Mar 2014 Service – Kong Hee

Psa 119
V28 My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word.
V92-93 92 Unless Your law had been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction. 93 I will never forget Your precepts, For by them You have given me life.
V107 I am afflicted very much; Revive me, O Lord, according to Your word.
V116 Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; And do not let me be ashamed of my hope.
V143 Trouble and anguish have overtaken me, Yet Your commandments are my delights.
V165 Great peace have those who love Your law, And nothing causes them to stumble.

2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Gen 1:2….. without form, void. Had become..
In Hebrew it is “tohu wa bohu“, which means upside down, become topsy turvy. Everything may be fine in your life but suddenly you’re experiencing turbulence.

BUT know this! The Spirit of God was hovering… Waiting to go into action. But waiting for what?! Waiting for the Word of God! And true enough, we see in the next verse, God spoke the Word..

V3: 3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

The Holy Spirit is a healer. But he’s waiting, taking position, waiting for the word. Once the Word was sent, he got into healing!
He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. Psa 107:20

Jesus has many names! Eg Jehovah Jireh
BUT God has magnified His Word above His name!

I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name. For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name. Psa 138:2

The name is powerful, but the Word is more powerful than the name!

#1 The Word Of God Is Creative
The Word of God has a creative solution for you, no matter what situation you are in.

3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. Heb 11:3…. were framed…That means it is the word that sets the boundaries, structure, framework.

Universe = uni + verse
One + poetic word or writing

“Both Religion and science require a belief in God. For believers, God is in the beginning, and for physicists He is at the end of all considerations.” -Dr. Max Planck

Jesus and The Word they are synonymous.
The word of God gives you abundant life; life superior in quality and quantity!
The word of Satan gives you a destructive life. Slander, gossip, etc. He has come to kill, steal and destroy.
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. Jn 10:10

There is power of life and death in the tongue!

#2 The Word Is God In Written Form

Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.
Psa 119:105
Light unto my path…. Gives you sight into your future.

The entrance of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple.
V130 … gives light

Light means revelation from heaven. Understanding is anointed common sense  So that we will not be native, gullible, easily taken in. Whose advice shall you heed?

He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will be destroyed.
Prov 13:20

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb 4:12

Don’t fellowship with fools or you will end up in a bigger mess!!

A fool says in his heart, there is no God. (Psa 14:1)
A fool is complacent. (Psa 74:18)
A fool is loud, brash & noisy. (Prov 9:13)
A fool never verifies & checks, he believes everything he is told. (Prov 14:15)
A fool is thoughtless, irrational & reckless. (Prov 14:18)
A fool dishonors + shows disrespect to his father & mother (Prov 15:20; 17:25)
A fool is unteachable and he repeats his mistakes again and again. (Prov 21:11)
A fool likes to argue over small, trivial things. (Prov 26:3)
A fool thinks too highly of himself. (Prov 26:12)
A fool hurts his neighbor, and then says, “I don’t mean it, I was only joking!”. (Prov 26:19)
Jesus says a fool doesn’t build his life on the Word of God. (Matt 7:26)

If you want to know God, just go to the Bible. God is love but He is not one-dimensional in His attributes
8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 1 Jn 4:8

Some argue that God was fiery and judgmental in the Old Testament, and then ‘softened’ his character in the New Testament and became more loving. But God doesn’t change!
“For I am the Lord, I do not change;
Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob. Mal 3:6

8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Heb 13:8

24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” Jn 4:24
Worship in spirit means deeply passionate. Worship him for who he is, not what he can do for you. It’s an expression of your love. God is love but he doesn’t stop there.

The word talks about:
Holiness of God
Sovereignty of God
Justice of God
Jealousy of God
Wrath of God

You can’t just pick out the attributes that you like (eg love) and reject the ones you don’t. In this way there is no difference in idolatry. You’re creating your own idol.

#3 The Word Of God Strengthens Us
My soul melts from heaviness;
Strengthen me according to Your word.
Psa 119:28

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. Jn 6:63 ..The word washes away all ur fear guilt shame etc. And uplifts your spirit.

To get a strong grip of the Bible:
Thumb: Hear the word
Index: Read the bible
Middle: Study
Ring: Memorise. (This is what it means to love God with all your mind… Memorise scriptures)
Pinky: Meditation

Psa 119
V23: Princes also sit and speak against me,
But Your servant meditates on Your statutes.

V78: Let the proud be ashamed,
For they treated me wrongfully with falsehood;
But I will meditate on Your precepts.

V148: My eyes are awake through the night watches,
That I may meditate on Your word.
The word “meditate” in Hebrew is hagah: to mutter, to say something to yourself quietly Make it move from your head into your heart.

5 Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] Heb 13:5 AMP

#4 The Word Of God Will Test Us

17 He sent a man before them—
Joseph—who was sold as a slave.
18 They hurt his feet with fetters,
He was laid in irons.
19 Until the time that his word came to pass,
The word of the Lord tested him.
Psa 105:17-19

Until the time the Word of God comes to pass for you, it will continue to test you.

A. The Word cleanses
9 How can a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed according to Your word.
11 Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.
Psa 119:9,11

B. The Word prunes
There’s a bleeding, it’s painful inside. God allows all our suffering for our good. Although it is the works of the devil, but God allowed it, to prepare you.

67 Before I was afflicted I went astray,
But now I keep Your word.
71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted,
That I may learn Your statutes.
75 I know, O Lord, that Your judgments are right,
And that in faithfulness You have afflicted me.
101 I have restrained my feet from every evil way,
That I may keep Your word.
176 I have gone astray like a lost sheep;
Seek Your servant,
For I do not forget Your commandments.
Psa 119:67,71, 75, 101, 176

Suffering is good for you! When God is pruning you, don’t run away!

Similar to a barber cutting your hair. You need to be still, only then can the barber get the job done. If you move, you get cut. Your hair gets cut wrongly.

C. Eat the word!
The Word of God is sweet to the mouth but bitter to the stomach
10 Then I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter. Rev 10:10

Experience the word personally. You can’t expect others to experience it on ur behalf! You have to experience it yourself. And it will go into a cycle, a process. Don’t run away, and let God finish the works in you!
