The Unshakeable Church

The Unshakeable Church

25 Jan 2014 Service – Phil Pringle

“Instead of rolling like a boat,” these structures actually stabilize during quakes, said study researcher Maria Brunhart-Lupo, a geologist at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo.

Earthquakes don’t need to destroy you. They can strengthen you. What won’t be shaken will only get stronger.

Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 2 Thess 2:1-2

14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, Eph 4:14

No matter what you believe, what you are sincere about, the truth doesn’t change. You can believe that gravity doesn’t exist but walking off a building will quickly prove you wrong.

Living in the truth means living in the light. You must be in the light to live in the light.

3 Things To Do To Become Unshakeable:
#1 Dig Deep –  Preparation
47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. Lk 6:47-48

Don’t rush to the execution of anything, it takes time to prepare! What you are going through now, it is preparing you to be unshakeable.

#2 Commitment is a relentless routine
Nothing is achieved without relentless routine. If you just do things when you feel like doing things, not much is going to happen.

Build altars.  It’s that one thing you go to everyday.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Cor 15:58

Start serving! That responsibility will help you stay committed. That will be part of the motivation that keeps you moving, that keeps you steadfast.

16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. Lk 4:16 – Jesus went to church every week! As custom as it was.

Even American President Theodore Roosevelt was actively involved in church. He was of the Dutch Reformed Church. He participated in missions work with his father, a noted philanthropist. He taught weekly Sunday School classes during his four years at Harvard. He wrote for Christian publications.

In 1917, in an interview with Ladies Home Journal, President Roosevelt offered at least 10 reasons for going to church.

25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Heb 10:25

You may know me.
I’m your greatest helper;
I’m your heaviest burden.

I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.
I am at your command.
Half the task you do might as well be turned over to me.
I am able to do them quickly, and I am able to do them
the same every time, if that’s what you want.

I am easily managed.
All you’ve got to do is be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want it done;
after a few lessons, I’ll do it automatically.

I am the servant of all great men and women;
of course, the servant of the failures as well.
I’ve made all the great people who have ever been great.
And, I’ve made all the failures, too.

But I work with all the precision of a marvelous computer,
with the intelligence of a human being.
You may run me for profit or you may run me to ruin;
it makes no difference to me.

Take me. Be firm with me, and I’ll put the world at your feet.
Be easy with me, and I will destroy you.

Who Am I? I Am Habit.

Some of us find excuses to justify our actions. But the issue is not with the matter, but our attitude and habit.

We need to say to the Lord, no matter what happens I’m going to serve you.

#3 Keep your eyes on Jesus, the cornerstone of our life
13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, Eph 4:13-14

The cornerstone (or foundation stone) concept is derived from the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure. It’s the most important stone.

Keep the relationship of Jesus Christ above every other in the world. Jesus needs to be centre of our life.
God has given us the Holy spirit to us so that we can have a personal walking, talking relationship with Christ.

When you and i keep our eyes firmly on Jesus, and not on the storm around us, we will be unshakeable. He is our Immovable rock, our strong fortress.

Don’t worry about what others say about me, you follow me!
Re-commit yourselves to God again in this brand new year!
