The Blessings Of Abraham (Part II)

Faith. Friend. Favour.

Abram and Melchizedek

18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. 19 And he blessed him and said:
“Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
Possessor of heaven and earth;
20 And blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”
And he gave him a tithe of all.
Gen 14:18-20

Well, that verse is good for Abraham, but what has it got to do with me?

13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Gal 3:13-14
So that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith !!

Your life is not an accident! God has plans for your life.
6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; Phil 1:6

Notice it says, Abram of God Most High! Usually, we commonly see “God of _____”, eg, God of Jacob…
32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

By saying Abram of God Most High, God made him his personal friend!
23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. James 2:23 (KJV)

God doesn’t just want to be your God, but your friend as well!

What did Abraham do to become a friend of God?

#1 Faith in God

8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. Heb 11:8

12 and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the faith which our father Abraham had while still uncircumcised.19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. Rom 4:12, 19-21

Abraham did not waver, but was strengthened in faith! Keep believing everyday, confessing, giving glory, praising and worshipping him.

17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Heb 11:17
… By faith!

11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also, Rom 4:11
– Father of all those who believe, Father of our faith.

#2 Friend of God

In old king James, it was spelled with a capaital ‘f’.
23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. James 2:23 (KJV)

It means he was special, friend above all friends.

“But you, Israel, are My servant,

Jacob whom I have chosen,
The descendants of Abraham My friend.
Isa 41:8

Friend in hebrew is Ahab, which means passionate lover. Abraham was passionate for God!  God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob!

And when you have become the friend of God, you then have the…..

#3 Favour of God

Favour means highly regarded, shown excessive kindness and given preferential treatment.
Over 90 times favour is used in the Bible.

3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand. 4 So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority. Gen 39:3-4
The Lord was with him. he had presence of God. He then prospered and got promoted.

6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. Eph 1:6

46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.Acts 2:46-47

Faith, Friend, Favor. Let’s become a friend of God!
