True Worship (Part I)

31 Aug 2013 Service – Phil Pringle

23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24

If there are true worshippers, there must be false worshippers as well. If there is true worship, there is false worship. Worship without presence, Worship that is dead.

Even in your most difficult troubling times that when you choose to worship and praise God, that’s when true worship surfaces out.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. Psa 95:6

Thanksgiving is where you enter the gates. But we need to keep on moving in. Next is praise, it only lets you walk the streets. But Worship will take you beyond the veil. Where we are transported, where our spirit passes the threshold. Worship will take you to the throne, somewhere deeper.

Animals don’t worship, you don’t see a monkey or elephant worshipping. But humans have a soul, have a spirit of worship in us, that yearns to worship.

It doesn’t matter how big the flood is, the boat will always rest on the mountain! Don’t stand in the sidelines, come to the field!

“You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created.”
Rev 4:11 – We are created you worship God..

10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’” Matt 4:10 – The first commandment is to love God, but in the expression of worship.

The worship is the most important part of the service, it connects you to heaven and God!

4 Points About True Worship
#1. True Worship Is Never Inexpensive
There is always a price to pay. If you go to church and worship, and give nothing to the offering, your worship is cheap.

3 And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head. 4 But there were some who were indignant among themselves, and said, “Why was this fragrant oil wasted? Mk 14:3-4

If your worship doesn’t attract criticism. Then it’s not true worship. Like the flask of alabaster. When the flask inside you is broken, it can’t get out until we are broken.

We all have a sense of injustice when we get pain but have done nothing wrong. But remember you are in good company, Jesus who suffered the most pain and died for us was innocent! He did nothing wrong, yet was crucified.

This is the life of the righteous, the cost of obedience. Of taking up the cross and following Jesus. ‘wasting’ your life on God, ‘wasting’  the offerings, is the truest worship.

It is not a sacrifice if it doesn’t cost you anything.

King David’s offering..
24 But King David replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on buying it for the full price. I will not take what is yours and give it to the Lord. I will not present burnt offerings that have cost me nothing!” 25 So David gave Araunah 600 pieces of gold in payment for the threshing floor.

26 David built an altar there to the Lord and sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings. And when David prayed, the Lord answered him by sending fire from heaven to burn up the offering on the altar.
1 Chr 21:24-26 NLT

Abraham’s offering..
5 And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.” Gen 22:5

It was going to be the most expensive worship ever, the highest offering paid.. His son

#2 True Worshippers Still Worship In The Midst Of Trials

He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver;
He will purify the sons of Levi,
And purge them as gold and silver,
That they may offer to the Lord
An offering in righteousness.
Mal3:3

You’re in the fire, you feel like you’re melting. You’re collapsing.. But the impurities start bubbling up, and you become pure..  And you’ll be glad this trial happened to you!

Worship in times of pain is the highest worship.

The Philippian Jailer Saved
23 And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. 24 Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.
Acts 16:23-26

Worship will set you free like nothing else can. It’s the greatest weapon. You will silence the enemy.

The most dangerous people to the devil are the ones that don’t care anymore — don’t care about trials. They’re used to it! They know God will deliver them, they just need to worship.

When you don’t care, you’re free.  That’s what freedom is. Not being held bondage to the opinions of others.

#3 True Worship Brings Christ To The Center

It’s not about anything else except Jesus Christ!

12 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands Rev 1:12 – John turned.. He heard a loud voice behind him.. it means he was looking at the wrong direction.

Don’t be distracted, don’t focus on the wrong things..  He needed God to turn him back, back to the center..

Don’t fill your head with things that make you face the wrong direction. Don’t care about others who put their opinions on you, who criticise you. Ignore the media and negativity.  It will never end.

and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. V13 – Jesus Christ is in the midst of us, right in the center of church! God is with us!

14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; V14 – Jesus doesn’t have one dark thought about you. He doesn’t condemn, and loves you unconditionally.

15 His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters;V15 – His voice refreshes you

16 He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. V16 – Only a person of true worship will discover who Jesus really is

17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me,“Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. V17  – finally..  When John saw him.. When we bow down in worship, God’s hand comes upon us. Fear not!

#4 True Worship Is Filled With The Holy Spirit

Worship needs to come out of that place where we are filled with the power of the Holy spirit.
8 The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:
“Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come!”
Rev 4:8 – No room to fill up anything else,  except Christ!
9 And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll,
And to open its seals;
For You were slain,
And have redeemed us to God by Your blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
10 And have made us kings and priests to our God;
And we shall reign on the earth.”
11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice:
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
To receive power and riches and wisdom,
And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”
13 And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying:
“Blessing and honor and glory and power
Be to Him who sits on the throne,
And to the Lamb, forever and ever!”
Rev 5:9-13
The pursuit of God is the object of worship.
