Rebuilding the Spiritual Walls
07 Aug 2013 WR YA Meeting – Ong Wei Ren
3 And they said to me, “The survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.” Neh 1:3
Let’s rebuild the walls of our church and life! Don’t be easily stumbled!
What are walls for? They are for defence! To protect the important things, the valuables.
The walls protect your walk with God. We must have walls to defend against the devil. Guard your walk with God, guard your relationship with God.
Your values, convictions, attitude.. Build your spiritual walls! You have many layers of defence! Like ministry, cell group, leaders, etc. You must have all these things to catch you when you fall!
We grow up with certain values and attitudes and convictions in church.. We are trained to be excellent and on fire and not complacent! To be tactful, to learn to respect, to be the head and not the tail, etc.
How do we rebuild the walls of spiritual hunger?
4 Now the mixed multitude who were among them yielded to intense craving; so the children of Israel also wept again and said: “Who will give us meat to eat? 5 We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic; 6 but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!” Numbers 11:4-6
They gave themselves away to lustful craving. Like meat and fish..
Lust doesn’t have to be sexual. Lust is just wanting something that God don’t want you to have.
40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” 41 The Jews then complained about Him, because He said, “I am the bread which came down from heaven.” 42 And they said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”
43 Jesus therefore answered and said to them, “Do not murmur among yourselves. 44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. Jn 6:40-45
They complained that manna was worthless and that made God very angry!
Manna relates to the spiritual things. Cg and services is manna. Serving God, Fellowship, church .. is manna.
They treated the things of God as common. They despised the things of God.
Don’t treat the things of God as common! Eg having a bias over a certain praise leader. You cut yourself off from the presence of God! Eventually we will experience spiritual death.
The enemy of spiritual hunger is lust.
When we are so full with chicken and fish, there is no more space for manna. We need to control or spiritual appetite. Eat wisely, have a balance diet.
When you have eaten, you need to expend your energy… If you just keep receiving and become too full you will just feel stoned and lazy.
Similarly, when we eat the manna and go to church to receive, you need an outlet to release and expend your energy — that is the ministry, serving God. Give, expend your energy, then you can want more. If you don’t expend, you won’t want more.
14 When Jesus went to Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law in bed with a fever. 15 Jesus touched her hand, and the fever went away. So she got up and prepared a meal for him. Matt 8:14-15 – When she received, she immediately arose and served!
It’s important to stir up your heart! It’s a personal hunger that no one can help but yourself.
God I want more of you. When you just seek Him, everything else will be added automatically.
One touch of God and your life will never be the same. Let us pursue this one touch of God for our whole life… You never know when it will come!
Slow down your lives and humble yourselves. Focus on our spiritual growth today!
