A Prevailing Church

21 May 2013 OM/MM Meeting – Phil Pringle

17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16 : 17-19

The Devil will try, but he will not succeed.

Something that needs to be revealed/brought to light mean it was previously concealed/hidden. We are lost till we meet Jesus. We are blind; we can’t see when our eyes are closed!

But as soon as we’re born again, our eyes are opened! We see God, in the world, at work in our lives. But we can’t see before we are born again, we are blind. That blindness makes us lost! We don’t know who we are, we don’t know why we’re here, we don’t know what we’re meant to do. But once we find Jesus, who is the light of the world, He reveals who He is, then He reveals who we are.

First we need to understand that we have sinned, then we can repent and be washed clean by the blood of Jesus.

1. First revelation: Revelation of who we are
We are all sinners from the start, we must know this fact so we can repent! We need to first be cleansed by the Blood before the oil of the Holy Spirit can come upon us!

2. Second revelation: Faith
Repentance is the doorway, Faith is the living room! This is the place we live in, not repentance! We need to move on from repentance, and accept that He has forgiven us.

                      repentance
   Sin ————————————> Faith
(door)                                           (living room)

Faith is something that is not yet seen. “Walk by faith, not by sight!”

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.1 John 1:9

It doesn’t matter whether you feel forgiven or not, what matters is what the Word says! Force your feelings to get in line with the Word! We walk by what the Word says, not our feelings!

18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18

Jesus gives Peter clear knowledge of three things:

1. How God has made him
2. How God sees him
3. His Destiny
God has made and sees him – Peter, like a rock!

Peter didn’t feel like a rock, but that doesn’t matter! You may think that you’re a wimp but God sees you strong and sturdy like a rock! Your view of yourself should be how God sees you, not how we or others see ourselves!
Destiny – I will build My church on this rock, the revelation of who you are

Most people wants to know what God has in plan for us, but His plan for us is going to blow our minds and freak us out!

Phil Pringle: ‘I’m glad He didn’t tell me what’s gonna happen in my life when He called me, cause I’d have second thoughts about it!’

Colossians 2:18
(a) Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and (b) worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not[a] seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

a. Our paths might be narrow but our minds don’t have to be! God wants us to blow our own minds and think big! Don’t limit yourselves by voluntary humility! God wants to bless us, to prosper us!

b. Do not blindly believe in your own impressions of ‘what God wants us to do’. Always go back to the Word, the Logos, & seek counsel with your leaders!

22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” Luke 3:22

If Jesus had a weakest point, this was it! He needed to know who He is, that He is God’s beloved Son. It’s a tough thing to believe about yourself when you’re perfectly sane!

Jesus received revelation that He is the Son of God and immediately after, He was sent to the wilderness where He was tempted to not believe that He is the Son of God!

“If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
“If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down.” Matthew 4:4-6

He had the revelation inside, but the only way to have it etched into the spirit is by going thru the fire! When you are going through temptations, you are forced to put your will into the revelation and choose to acknowledge that this is who I am! You have to agree with the revelation and decide that it is true!

God gives you a revelation and puts you into the fire. Put your will into the revelation when you go through fire!

Nothing will establish in your life if you don’t go through fire, if you don’t go through some pain.

What you act on, you strengthen it!

Isaiah 50 : 4
“The Lord God has given Me
The tongue of the learned,
That I should know how to speak
A word in season to him who is weary.
He awakens Me morning by morning,
He awakens My ear
To hear as the learned.

Jesus studied the scriptures day and night, and could explain all the passages that’s related to Him. All through the years that He was growing up, God quickened His understanding of the passages, so that He had the self-image that He is the Son of God, that He knew exactly who He was. This is what He wants us to know also!

John 10:9 ‘I am the door.’
John 40:6 ‘I am the way, the truth, the life’
John 6:48 ‘I am the bread of life.’
John 15:1 ‘I am the true vine’

63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

When revelation comes into you, life comes into you! Nothing in this world can take away the eternal life we have inside us!

What lives, grows! (You and me!)
23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;
24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. James 1:23-25 – He immediately forgets, he lets the trouble of the world define who he is, instead of the Word

25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

When you live out who you are, and don’t forget your identity, you will be blessed! His Word, scripture tells us who we are, not the comments of others. We must remind ourselves of who we are, our identity in Christ!

Do not let yourself be cheated of your reward by people’s opinions of you! Do not allow troubled circumstances define who you are! Do not let the devil dislodge the knowledge of who you are, out of your brain!

We tend to forget the things we should remember; and remember the things we should forget.

Negative things force their entrance while Positive things need to be initiated into our minds! Stay away from negativity & keep the Word of God close!

18 “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.
19 Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19

Do not remember the things of the past! God will make a way even when there seems to be no way! Preoccupation with the past prevents us appropriating our future! You can choose what you think!

It’s one thing to have information, but you need to take time and meditate on the Word, for it to sink deep into your spirit. You feel defeated when your Word level is smaller than your Problem level. When your problem comes up, and your Word level is not high enough, you collapse!

The Word of God tells you who you are, what you have, where you come from, where you’re going. Being a revelation person, makes you stronger than anything here on earth because you have eternal truth against temporal knowledge!

Your problems will win, if the Word of God in you is not stronger than your problems.

Those who forgot who they are:

1. Prodigal son (Luke 15:11)
– He knew what he has but forgot who he was. He wanted the fruit not root of his father’s life, but not the root of it. Hidden prayer life that produces the fruit!

21 An inheritance gained hastily at the beginning Will not be blessed at the end. Proverbs 20:21

Growth is a steady process. Step by step, bit by bit! When you revisit the same situation a year later, you’ll realize that you’re more than able to overcome

29 I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. 30 Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land. Exodus 23:29

Prov 20:29-30 – God will allow us to possess the land, thru time, warfare & trials! Go and take the land of forgiveness, victory, visions, prosperity, and abundance!

To get the revelation is one thing, you have to decide to walk through the fire! Fight using the scriptures. Even Jesus used the scriptures to fight off the devil in the wilderness! But do not think that the devil will be frightened off just by whispering ‘go away devil’. Fight the good fight! Don’t be a marshmallow Christian! Man up!

4 Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, 2 but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father. Galatians 4:1-2

Growth and possession of the land go hand in hand! Once you decide to grow up, accept responsibility in your life, be obedient to the Word of God, stop blaming everybody else, you’ll find yourself possessing the land!

Complaining is the language of victims! Complaining says ‘I can’t do anything about it, so I murmur’
Victors see problems as an opportunity for victory!

7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of[a] God through Christ. Galations 4:7

The moment the prodigal son turns back and made his journey back, the bible says, ‘he remembered who he was’. When he got back, he immediately rediscovered everything that he lost

2. Israelites in Canaan
33 There we saw the giants(the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” Numbers 13:33

As long as you are fearful, you will feel small! Do not shrink in the face of trials! See ourselves through God’s eyes, that we are equal to anything! We are as big as our trials!

Joshua and Caleb did not forget who they are under pressure! They were the only ones who came out of the wilderness in their generation conquering the Promised Land! They stayed true to God and conquered the land!

3. Gideon

12 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!” 13 Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”

14 Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?” 15 So he said to Him, “O my Lord,[b] how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” Judges 6:12-15

All of us are/were Gideons, fearful and weak in our own minds.

1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. 2 And supper being ended,[a] the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, 4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. John 13:1-4

Revelations Jesus had:

Prophetic – His hour has come
Power – He knew his father has put all things into His hands.
Moses had a rod; the widow has only a jar of oil. Whatever God has put into our hands, it is enough!
Positional – where He comes from

3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. Joshua 1:3

Past – what God has already done for us. All our blessings, God has already given them to us! It has already been done!

Present
2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 1 John 3:2

9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. Colossians 2:9-10 (NKJV)

9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.[a] 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority. Colossians 2:9-10 (NLT)

Purpose – where He’s going to

29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. Romans 8:29

We are striving to be like Jesus. He is the firstborn

17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 1 John 4:17

– God is sitting, resting, not anxious
4 For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. 1 John 5:4

28 And we know that God causes everything to work together[a] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28

Who are we? We are overcomers in Christ!
