What Happened On The Cross

23 Mar 2013 Service – Kong Hee

51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, Matt 27:51

34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Mk 15:34

Psalms 22 gives us a graphic idea of what happened:
22 My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?
Why are You so far from helping Me,
And from the words of My groaning?
2 O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear;
And in the night season, and am not silent.
3 But You are holy,
Enthroned in the praises of Israel.
4 Our fathers trusted in You;
They trusted, and You delivered them.
5 They cried to You, and were delivered;
They trusted in You, and were not ashamed.
6 But I am a worm, and no man;
A reproach of men, and despised by the people.
Psa 22:1-6
Jesus literally died with a broken heart.
34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. Jn 19:34

But his suffering was more than physical, mental and emotional. It was nothing compared with spiritual suffering.

2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
3 He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
4 Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Isa 53:2-6

It was God who loved us so much that He took all our iniquities and laid them on his son! Not the devil! God dealt with the sickness problem, then the sin problem.

9 And they made His grave with the wicked—But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth. Isa 53:9 – death is plural, Jesus died many deaths for many things.

7 Your wrath lies heavy upon me, And You have afflicted me with all Your waves. 16 Your fierce wrath has gone over me; Your terrors have cut me off.Psa 88:7,16

Righteousness means the ability to stand in Gods presence without the sense of guilty condemnation or inferiority.16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory. 1 Tim 3:16

18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 1 Pet 3:18

15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. Col 2:15

27 No one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his house. Mk 3:27

14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, Heb 2:14

By faith if we can identify with Christ, it is as good as if we were there.

Let God arise, Let His enemies be scattered; Let those also who hate Him flee before Him. Psa 68:1

What happened during the 40 days

15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?”

She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’”Jn 20:15-17

12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. Heb 9:12

Don’t give up on God. God hasn’t given up on you.

10 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. Heb 10:1-4

2 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 1 Jn 2:1 – we have an advocate!

9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 Jn 1:9

8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”11 who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:8,11

When Jesus went up, He was taken up in a cloud. Many people believe it is not a physical cloud but thousands of old testament saints that went up together with him.What happened at the upper room?

Unity is forged only through a spirit of prayer.Satan cannot destroy the church, only we can. A house divided by itself cannot stand. We must be united.From the cross to the throne:He sat down at e right hand of the father, and we are seated beside him!
