Identification in Christ

17 Mar 2013 Service – Kong Hee

One encounter with Christ radically transformed Saul, into Paul. He called himself a ‘man in Christ’.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, John: Proclamation of the gospel
Acts: Demonstration of the gospel
Writings of Paul: Explanation of the gospel; the behind the scenes

3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures 1 Cor 15:3-4

If you read the whole bible and you miss this thing of first importance, you miss what the Bible is all about, you miss the masterpiece. What is the masterpiece? The Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Knowing exactly where we stand in Christ, is critical to our faith, to our future, to the destiny of our lives.

15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Mk 16:15

We have 10 sermons in the book of Acts, 5 by Peter, 5 by Paul.
Every one of them was on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Everything Jesus did, He did it for you, not Himself. Jesus gets all the glory, we get all the credit.

The death, burial and resurrection will consume all your past!

Paul used ‘in Christ’, ‘in Him’ and ‘in whom’ more than 140 times in the Bible!
IN means union When you’re ‘in-Christ’, you’re in union Christ
WITH means identification When you’re ‘with Christ’, you ‘were there’ with Him, you were identified with Him!

You must fully identify with Christ before you can have the benefits!

#1 Crucified with Christ
Crucifixion is a means of getting rid.

If any man is in-Christ, there is a radical change! Do you want to go unto the cross with Him? Do you really want Him? He will give u the strong to kick that addiction. Do you wanna kick that addiction? You are a new creation!
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Cor 5:17

20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Gal 2:20 – Paul was never there with Jesus during crucifixion, so how can he be crucified with Christ?? By FAITH!

6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. Rom 6:6

He had a deep deep revelation, and by faith.

You need to believe, and want it, and desire it.
Nobody can force you to be crucified with Christ.

# 2 Died with Christ
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, Rom 6:8

He became the substitute for the judgment of our sins. There is no more judgment for us.
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Cor 5:21

5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Isa 53:5-6 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Mk 15:34
We are nailed unto he cross with Him in faith, the sickness and curse has no dominion in our life.

He became unto spiritual death so that we can have spiritual life with God.

By His stripes we are healed!

24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24

#3 Buried with Christ
Hell must have been celebrating, that Jesus was now powerless and conquered. What exactly happened?
4 I am counted with those who go down to the pit;
I am like a man who has no strength,
5 Adrift among the dead,
Like the slain who lie in the grave,
Whom You remember no more,
And who are cut off from Your hand.
6 You have laid me in the lowest pit,
In darkness, in the depths.
7 Your wrath lies heavy upon me,
And You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah
8 You have put away my acquaintances far from me;
You have made me an abomination to them;
I am shut up, and I cannot get out;
9 My eye wastes away because of affliction.
Lord, I have called daily upon You;
I have stretched out my hands to You.
14 Lord, why do You cast off my soul?
Why do You hide Your face from me?
15 I have been afflicted and ready to die from my youth;
I suffer Your terrors;
I am distraught.
16 Your fierce wrath has gone over me;
Your terrors have cut me off.
17 They came around me all day long like water;
They engulfed me altogether. Psa 88:4-9,14-17

But then there is a higher purpose! Because Jesus has taken it all, every man doesn’t have to be punished anymore!

5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood… 18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death. Rev 1:5, 18

#4 Made alive with Him
5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), Eph 2:5

18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. Col 1:18

He’s so righteous there’s no condemnation. We are not just forgiven sinners, we are a NEW CREATURE! We are made RIGHTEOUS.

From now on, there is no more guilt and shame, everything is already finished.
I am the righteousness of God in Christ! We can come boldly before God.

We’re not perfect, we should not be sin-conscious. It will block the blessing of God and the Holy Spirit.

We are righteous in Christ, we can put on the robe of righteousness now, not when we die!

Even if we sin, we can confess it quickly and move on with Jesus.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 Jn 1:9

Finding the righteousness in Christ is important.

How do we ask anything with faith if we struggle with condemnation and guilt? How are we going to pray and ask God? Especially when we go into trial!

#5 Raised with Christ
6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, Eph 2:6

We are more than conquerors in my trials and tribulation in Jesus, cos He has been through even more than me and I’m in Him.

#6 Seated with Christ
Eph 2:6
God has accepted and approved us; This is the highest honor God has even given us.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, Eph1:3

We are identified with Christ on the throne now! All spiritual blessings are available to us!

3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Col 3:3
We are hidden with Christ!

#7 Reigning with Christ
11 This is a faithful saying:
For if we died with Him,
We shall also live with Him.
12 If we endure,
We shall also reign with Him.
If we deny Him,
He also will deny us.
2 Tim 2:11-12

We died with Him. Live with Him. If we endure, we will reign with Him.
We are more than conquerors with Christ!!

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Rom 8:37
