Renewing Prayer

05 Mar 2013 Leader’s Meeting – Kong Hee

32 And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: 33 who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. 35 Women received their dead raised to life again. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. Heb 11:32-35

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 2 Cor 4:16

Daniel: Deep prayer and revelation. All out in the market place. Prayer got him out of trouble.

6 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred and twenty satraps, to be over the whole kingdom; 2 and over these, three governors, of whom Daniel was one, that the satraps might give account to them, so that the king would suffer no loss. 3 Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm. 4 So the governors and satraps sought to find some charge against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find no charge or fault, because he was faithful; nor was there any error or fault found in him. 5 Then these men said, “We shall not find any charge against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God.” 6 So these governors and satraps thronged before the king, and said thus to him: “King Darius, live forever! 7 All the governors of the kingdom, the administrators and satraps, the counselors and advisors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm decree, that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. 8 Now, O king, establish the decree and sign the writing, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which does not alter.” 9 Therefore King Darius signed the written decree. Dan 6:1-9 Their ultimate goal was to destroy Daniel & destroy the House of God

What kind of a person are you, as a christian, and a leader? Under pressure, the real you will be manifested. God allows us to be under pressure so that we can all know who we are.

We need to humble ourselves.
10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days. Dan 6:10

-“Upper room” = “place of prayer”
– “Knelt down on his knees” = “humbled himself before God”
– “Prayed and gave thanks” = FAITH

Jesus through His struggle, in His tears, is still giving thanks.

18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men. Rom 14:18
Prayer

#1 Prayer opens the door for the Spirit
21 When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. 22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” Luke 3:21-22 – Heaven opened!

Gather to pray!

31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:31 [ESV]

Prayer always open up the door. Always!

#2 Prayer leads to encounters
22 My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you.” Dan 6:22

Sometimes we need to get into the fire to see the fourth men. There were encounters in all the chapters in Daniel. He was the only one who saw Jesus, Gabriel and Michael!

Paul = Spirit of wisdom and revelation.
Although he didnt meet Jesus, but he could tell all the ‘behind-the-scene’ stories of Jesus; before, during, and after the cross.

#3 Prayer brings brokenness
When a man is broken, his heart resists pride. And he is used to a greater extent. Deep prayer brings brokenness and surrender. That brings us more grace. And that grace brings us to greater success. -Dr Cho

63 O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land
Where there is no water.
2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.
3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips shall praise You.
4 Thus I will bless You while I live;
I will lift up my hands in Your name.
Psa 63:1-4

God cannot use someone who is not broken and who is not completely surrendered to Him. Don’t hold onto sins but don’t become sin-conscious.

Our hunger for God must be bigger than anything before us now. Be like Daniel. Strip all away. He was a person of prayer and revelation!
33 who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.. Heb 11:33

The bible didn’t only state that Daniel could stop the mouths of lions, his name wasn’t mentioned here. It means that anyone can do so, as long as you have faith!
