The Lord’s Prayer
19 Feb 2013 Leader’s Meeting – Kong Hee
We need to pray to sustain our spiritual life.
Prayer is a dialogue with God in which our attitudes and thoughts are ingrafted into God’s thoughts. When our desires are fitting with God’s thinking, he will surely definitely give it to us.
The Lord’s Prayer
11 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
2 So He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.”
#1 Our Father in Heaven
Our thinking affects our speaking.
You are not just approaching a god or deity, but your father! We are coming to someone that we have a link with. We know who we are, we are the children of God.
We have identity, we have security, we are loved. When we approach him there shouldn’t be any fear or apprehension. When we pray, our frame of mind must be correct!
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 8:38-39
#2 Your Kingdom come Your Will be done
The kingdom of God is where His sovereignty reigns.
The kingdom of God is:
A. Place where righteousness is exalted (Mtt 4:17)
B. Place where healing is experienced.
C. Place where demons are expelled. (Lk11:20)
E. Place where eternal life is received.
For the kingdom is the Lord’s, And He rules over the nations. Psa 22:28
Praying is great, but when we declare it, it becomes even more powerful!
#3 Give us day by day our daily bread
God is not against us having material things, but material things having us.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Mtt 6:33
#4 Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive
First of all, we need to forgive ourselves. On the cross we are forgiven, but you got to accept it! Otherwise it has no effect or power!
#5 Do not lead us into temptation
Satan is the tempter, He came to kill, steal and destroy.
Trials will purify ur faith.
6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 1 Peter 1:6-7
When you are persecuted for righteousness, God’s grace is sufficient for us!
Persevere in prayer!
