The Journey Of Our Commitment
27 Jan 2013 Discipleship Meeting – Lily Yong
10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Philip 3:10-11
Paul’s greatest desire is really to know God, to experience him in all his fullness.
By experiencing him is to experience:
Power of his resurrection
Fellowship of His suffering (A suffering not of lack or sicknesses etc)
Many people just want to experience the power of his resurrection, but not the fellowship of His suffering.
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. Jn 10:10
Its not the destination but the process! Our christian life is really a journey, it’s a process!
God wants to make you a fisher of men! God is looking for those who will change, and move on together with him!
Sometimes we give ourselves ‘reasons’ to justify our actions. To not to do this or go ahead with that. But to experience Christ, we have to follow him and obey him, and go through his challenges.
How do we progress on our journey with God??
1) Guard our foundation
Do not remove the ancient landmark Which your fathers have set. Prov 22:28
Hold onto the principles with eternal values.
18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Cor 3:18 ..glory to glory
7 They go from strength to strength; Each one appears before God in Zion. Psa 84:7 ..strength to strength
We don’t discard the foundation but build on it! Things like quiet time, prayer, tithing, fasting, etc
The 5 basic foundations of our church:
Prayer & Worship
2) Renewing of our mind
12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Rom 12:1-2
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. Isa 55:8-9
Put on the mind of Christ!
22 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! Matt 6:22-23 .. Whatever that captures your attention will renew your mind.
Take time to soak God’s word everyday!
Every one of us behaves according to our self-image, despite the reality of what it really is.
Only when ur soul prospers then you will prosper in all things!
7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you. Prov23:7 .. As a man thinks in heart, so is he.
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. Philip 4:8
Change the way that you think! But it is not automatic.
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ Matt 22:37 … With all ur mind.
There are 2 parts of the mind: conscious and sub-conscious
You can only make one decision at a time with your conscious mind.
Like choosing your dinner, if you choose chicken, your mind cancels out the options of having fish, beef, etc. So if your mind believes you are dumb, then it cancels out the option of promotion. If your mind believes you can’t do well, then it cancels the option of excellence.
Your sub-conscious mind is your internal autopilot, it always moves the direction where your conscious mind goes.
Left brain: word sensitive
Right brain: picture sensitive
20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, Eph3:20 ..Ask or think..
3) Obey the vision
19 “Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, Acts 26:19
If we’re comfortable at where we are, we will never move from glory to glory, faith to faith, strength to strength.
18 “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert. Isa 43:18-19
36 Then He spoke a parable to them: “No one puts a piece from a new garment on an old one; otherwise the new makes a tear, and also the piece that was taken out of the new does not match the old. 37 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. 38 But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved. 39 And no one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires new; for he says, ‘The old is better.’” Lk 5:36-39
