Look to God

The Story of Mary & Martha
38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” 41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42
Martha met Jesus first, but yet she was totally clueless about the heart of God. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in church. It depends on your intimacy and relationship with God.
Mary then sat at the feet of Jesus. When you come to a place of rest, God will do the rest.
Martha was busy worried and anxious but Mary chose the place of rest. Martha was distracted with much serving. Distracted – diverted from what God had originally wanted for her.
40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
2 things about Martha:
1) She was too position-minded.
2) She was too performance driven. As a result, started comparing herself with Mary.
When you have these two things, you will give place to injustice and jealousy in your life.
42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” — What will never be taken from her? Her position, her relationship with God.
Don’t focus on the position, focus on Jesus, and then you will get the position, and it will never be taken away from you!
The Story of the Lame Man Healed
3 Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. 2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; 3 who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. 4 And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” 5 So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” 7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God. 10 Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. Acts 3:1-11
They carried the lame man..
And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple;
We all need people to carry us at different points in our lives, to encourage, motivate, pray for us, etc
They didn’t carry him all the way into the temple, but left him at the gate instead.
Nobody is going to carry you to your destiny. You need to enter it yourself. People can help you get there, but ultimately you will need to enter through the gate by yourself.
Gate — You can see through a gate, it is not like a door where you don’t know what’s behind. This lame man at the gate could see beautiful things through the gate everyday. But the gate separates him with all the beautiful things around him.
Until the day Peter and John met him. All of a sudden a faith, a desire and expectation came.
5 So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.
The moment he lifted up his hands to God, the power of God came upon him.
7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
It’s time to get into your beautiful life. It’s time to have faith God wants to give you a beautiful life. But don’t look at others, don’t compare, look to God!
