5 Jan 2013 Service – Kong Hee
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Jn 3:16
Eternal life starts the moment we believe in Jesus Christ; It is a gift from God.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 6:23
Eternal life gives us divine nature of God, we are literally born of God.
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Cor 5:17
New Creature = Something or someone that never existed before. God puts his divine nature into us and we rise up to Gods level.
6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, Eph 2:6
21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. Eph 1:21
19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Eph 3:19
We are a new creature in Jesus
No matter how merciful God is,our sins cannot be ignored. Our sins deem punishment. On the cross, Jesus Christ became our sin substitute.
4 Truths About Righteousness
1) Righteousness removes the remembrance of sins
Atonement means covering. But this context is not used with the blood of Jesus because the blood of Jesus not only covers, it cleanses!
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Heb 8:12
13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Col 1:13-14
1) Delivered out of Satan’s dominion
2) We are born into the kingdom of the Son of His love
3) Because of Jesus
4) Remission of sins – To remit means to send something far away; In greek, to send or wipe away as if it was never committed at all
In short, he:
Delivers, Recreates, Redeems and Remit.
God MAKES a wilful decison, to forget all your past mistakes, as if you’ve never committed a single wrong. He will never remind us of any wrong thing we have done.
In Christ, we have no more past. Only a present and a future. So must we! We need to forgive and forget others!
Righteousness is more powerful than forgiveness. I can forgive you but I don’t have to forget or accept you. But in righteousness there is no memory of past sins.
David’s 200 men stayed behind
10 But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so weary that they could not cross the Brook Besor. 1 Sam 30:10
But yet David gave them what they didn’t deserve.
19 And nothing of theirs was lacking, either small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything which they had taken from them; David recovered all. 20 Then David took all the flocks and herds they had driven before those other livestock, and said, “This is David’s spoil.” 1 Sam 30:19-20
God came through for David on his worst day. Your worst day can be your best day.
-Gives us what we don’t deserve.
-Rewrites history (1 Sam 30:24)
-Imputes to us a different motive
-Imputes nobility to something ignoble
-Gives us strength when we are weak (Heb 11)
2) Righteousness is the divine nature that overpowers sin
Setting a sinful man free is dangerous if God doesn’t change his nature. When Jesus gives us freedom, its not the freedom TO sin, but freedom FROM sin!
6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. 1 Jn 3:6,9
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Cor 5:21
Jesus was made sin with our sinfulness to give us his righteousness.
2 Things happened on the cross:
1) God declares us righteous
Justified: just as if we’ve never sinned before (righteous by faith)
2) We are made new creatures in christ (righteous by nature)
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. Rom 6:6
Satan cannot MAKE us sin, so he tries to tempt us and make us sin conscious. We remind ourselves and others of our sins. The more sin conscious we are, the more we will fall back to sin again.
2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. Heb 10:2
So how do we gain righteousness??
7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 6:7-11 “reckon yourselves to be dead to sin”
Reckon (accounting word in greek: logizomai): to count, number, calculate, credit, impute
Awake to righteousness and do not sin!
10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Rom 10:10
4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Pet 1:4
You just need to renew your mind, and AGREE! Believe in it, and u reckon what Christ has done for us by faith, that we are righteous in Jesus Christ!
21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. Col 1:21-23
We turn our negatives into positives through our MOUTH, via speaking, confessions, prayer, etc.
3) Righteousness gives us boldness in God’s presence.
Righteousness is the ability to stand in e presence of God without guilt, condemnation or inferiority.
21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. 22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 1 Jn 3:21-22
